Legatus. Beiträge zur römischen Verwaltungsgeschichte

The present investigation aims at schowing how the Roman legateship, uniform in its beginning in the late third centry B.C., developed to the highly differentiated office of the Principate. Special attention has been given to the genesis of the Gallo-Germanic and Moesian provinces under Octavian – Augustus. Two appendices list (1) the legates of the Republic and (2) the legates of the proconsuls during the Principate.
